A grass-pattern belt has a closely textured carrying surface designed to provide grip through its surface profile. It is rubber belting rather than artificial turf. Surface geometry, rubber compound and reinforcement must be considered together when selecting a replacement.
For ski-area magic carpets, snow parks and other recreational conveyor projects, selection starts with the conveyor manufacturer’s belt specification. Traction depends on the contact surface, moisture, snow or contamination, load, belt speed and gradient. Supply an existing belt sample or detailed photographs where possible.

Match the belt to the conveyor
The carrying surface must be compatible with the intended contact materials. The underside must suit the support bed and drive arrangement. Confirm tracking requirements, edge guidance, available take-up travel and pulley diameters before specifying the belt construction.
Where people ride on the conveyor, the complete installation requires project-specific guarding, loading and unloading arrangements, emergency stopping and inspection procedures. Belt supply must follow the system designer’s specification and the applicable local requirements. Surface texture alone does not establish the suitability of a passenger conveyor.
Jointing, installation and care
Agree the joint type with the conveyor manufacturer and belt supplier. Vulcanized or mechanical joints must suit the actual belt construction, pulley arrangement and required surface continuity. Check the joint and belt edges during routine maintenance, remove trapped debris and use cleaning methods compatible with the rubber compound. Maintain tracking and tension according to the conveyor instructions.
System requirements and belt-component selection
EN 15700:2023 concerns the safety of travelators for winter sport or tourist use. The system designer must identify the applicable requirements for the complete installation. A belt surface description is not proof that a passenger system complies with that standard, and no such certification is claimed here.
The EP/NN carcass and strength guide explains general reinforcement terminology; the actual magic carpet belt must follow the approved conveyor specification. Chevron belts for inclined bulk materials serve a different application and must not be treated as an interchangeable passenger-conveyor surface.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a complete magic carpet lift?
No. This page covers the conveyor belting component, not a complete passenger conveyor or lift system. Send the belt specification from the system designer. Guarding, controls, emergency stopping and acceptance of the complete installation remain project-specific system requirements.
Can the belt be used outdoors in snow?
Provide the lowest and highest operating temperatures, moisture, snow or ice exposure, contact materials and cleaning conditions. Grip and flexibility must be evaluated for the proposed compound, pattern and actual operation. Surface texture alone does not establish a cold-temperature limit or safe passenger traction.
How do I specify a replacement belt?
Provide the conveyor model and approved belt drawing, existing marking, width, length or endless circumference, reinforcement, base and total thickness, pattern photographs and joint details. Include pulley sizes, support bed, guidance, take-up travel, operating conditions, quantity and destination.
